16th July 2023
Class Conscious editors Robert Montgomery and Davey Heller were honored to be invited to be part of the opening online session of the founding Congress in Brazil for the new Communist Party. The party is being founded out of the merger of three existing communist workers leagues including the Liga Communista (Communist League).
Class Conscious has worked extensively with Liga Communista over the last two years to bring together Marxist opposition to the imperialist proxy war against Russia through the Marxists Speak Out network. Opposition to the war against Russia is also one of the strongest factors that drew the new members of the Communist Party founded in Brazil together. Class Conscious congratulates our comrades in Brazil on their hard work in overcoming organisational and sectarian obstacles to form their new anti-imperialist party. We hope to learn from their experience and to try emulate this success in our own countries. Below is an English translation the report back from the Communist Party on its Found Congress published on its website Folha de Trabalhalador (Sheet of the Workers) in Portuguese.
Balance of the Communist Party Congress

9/7/23
On June 30, July 1 and 2, 2023, the founding Congress of the Communist Party was held. The foundation is an initiative of three communist workers’ leagues: the Marxist League, the Communist League and the Socialist League. After a merger process of more than a year, the Congress was finalized and was attended by comrades from Pará, Ceará, Pernambuco, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul, therefore, eight States of the country from the North, Northeast, Southeast and South regions.
The forum brought together professors from federal, state, municipal and university public networks; construction workers; tankers; retired workers; merchants; banking; university programmers and technical-administrative workers.

Antônio Sérgio Guimba, one of the founders of the PT, a former member of the OSI, participated in the bank workers’ strike in 1979.
Of the three organizations that built the merger process, each one has its own trajectory, a political tradition and are located in different states of the country. Even until the start of the merger process, it can be said that they also belonged to different international traditions such as the 3rd, 4th Internationals and League for the 5th International. The three organizations decided to dissolve themselves and from then on to build the Communist Party, a revolutionary party of cadres that will have as organs for the dissemination of its ideas mainly the site Folha da Classe Trabalhador ( http://www.folhadotrabalhador.org/ ) and the Emancipação do Trabalho video channel ( https://www.youtube.com/@emancipacaodotrabalho1913 ).
Based on the debate and the statute, approved in its first Congress, the Communist Party is a Marxist organization that fights for the overcoming of capitalism, for the establishment of the Dictatorship of the Proletariat and for the conquest of world socialism.
The Communist Party also understands that dialectical-historical materialism is made by thinking about the issues of the present time. That is why we defend Marxist decolonial thinking, which considers class struggles from our place and the historical contradictions and conflicts that formed us and that must be fought so that we can truly become an egalitarian, sovereign nation aware of its role. in world geopolitics. The struggle of the working class is always national and international.
It is necessary to revive the concept of class struggles of workers against the bourgeoisie in all its aspects. Liberal and neoliberal thought tries to obliterate this understanding in order to confuse and divide the working class. Marx’s and Engels’ call for unity remains absolutely timely.
In the construction process, the merger that was consummated in Congress managed to overcome external political harassment and maneuvers by another organization that was part of the process, actions that aimed to divert the potential of building the new organization through co-option for these already existing organizations. The resolute rejection of these liquidationist attempts of the merger process gave more cohesion and firmness to the birth of the Communist Party.
In addition to the digressions on the Trotskyist and Stalinist aspects, we understand that we must look historically and dialectically at our current reality and envision the need to join forces to fight our common enemies. The Communist Party aims to bring together national and international leftist forces to build a new Communist International.
Long live the revolution!
Long live the Communist Party!
